The Gift of Coffee Is a Warm One

Nov 10, 2017

While getting creative with your gift-giving year after year can prove to be a daunting challenge, browsing the many small business retailers throughout the greater LBI region provides a host of unique inspirations that big box retailers lack.

At How You Brewin? Coffee Company’s two LBI locations, owners Dan and Lori Malay remind that buying bagged coffee (whole bean or ground) from their selection of over 30 origins, blends and flavors can be the answer to a gift that recipients can enjoy daily.

Lori Malay suggested, “Pairing a couple pounds together in a box makes for a great gift under $30. Or grab a handful of our 2-ounce, one-pot samplers as wonderful stocking stuffers.

“Bagged coffee has always been a hot gift item for your kids’ school teachers for sure, and all our coffee is roasted right here in the Garden State,” she added.

While coffee is at the heart of what How You Brewin? does, other gifts can well accompany and supplement bagged coffee. Consider beautifully and well-made ceramic mugs, or the stainless steel coffee club mug that gives the user the life-long chance to refill for only $1.

Don’t know what to get that hard-to-shop-for person on your list? A gift certificate is always a safe option. Putting the gift card in the recipient’s name upon purchase makes its use easy in the case of a lost card.

“The gift card owner can just provide their name to tap into the card’s account. We have endless customers who use it as a house account that they just keep replenishing,” Malay said.

If part of your holiday shopping experience always involves giving to others outside your shopping list, How You Brewin?’s new “Pay It Forward” Board provides an incredible opportunity to give back.

Dan Malay explained, “Our customers can purchase a drink of their choice for anyone of their choice. We write the drink and who they purchased it for on one of our cup sleeves and tack it to the Pay It Forward Board. When someone comes in and sees a sleeve that fits them, they are welcome to help themselves.”

When asked what types of sleeves have been bought so far, Dan shared, “We’ve had sleeves purchased for a ‘teacher,’ ‘veteran’ and a ‘senior citizen,’ as well as someone who is a ‘new LBI resident’ and someone ‘battling cancer.’ The response to this new program has been overwhelming, and we have so thoroughly enjoyed being a part of facilitating the spirit of paying it forward.”

While shopping for others, don’t forget to spoil yourself by enjoying your favorite How You Brewin? beverage of choice.

Holiday selections include Christmas Blend coffee, a Gingerbread Latte, Merry Mint Mocha and even Peppermint Bark Cold Brew.

How You Brewin? Surf City is open at 7 a.m. year ’round everyday except Christmas Day. In their 14th year, they have established themselves as a mainstay in the local LBI community as a place to meet, get work done, socialize and foster community. Gifts from small business shops such as this not only provide unique ideas but fuel the very community in which we live, eat and shop.
