Three Arrested on Burglary Charges in Ship Bottom

Aug 21, 2017

Anyone who was a victim of a recent string of car burglaries in Ship Bottom or with any information about the incidents should call local law enforcement, according to borough police, who arrested three males for the thefts during the early morning hours of Aug. 15.

Dylan Bertolino, 19, of Yonkers, N.Y.; Patrick Owners, 19, of Congers; and Christopher Hauser, 19, of New York City were arrested and charged with several counts of burglary and theft after Patrolman Anthony Lalzo spotted the suspects running from a driveway of one of the homes, and into the backyard of a nearby home, authorities said. When the suspects fled the driveway, they left a vehicle car door partially ajar, police said. Lalzo apprehended two suspects on foot while they were in the driveway, according to the authorities. The third suspect was arrested by Sgt. Edward Williams a short time later, police said.

The officers conducted an additional sweep of the area, and found numerous items stolen from at least eight vehicles. In addition to the stolen property in their possession, police recovered a bag filled with stolen items the trio attempted to throw away in the bay after being spotted by police. The suspects told police they burglarized only vehicles they found to be left unlocked.

Borough police said all residents and visitors should lock their homes and vehicles at all times to help prevent such crimes. —G.G.S.
