Three Long Beach Island School Board Seats Available This Fall

Candidates Must File Petition By July 31
May 31, 2017

Individuals intending to run for one of three open seats on the Long Beach Island Board of Education this fall must file petitions by 4 p.m. July 31. The election will be held on Nov. 7.

The following tenures are ending: Jennifer Bott, Ship Bottom; Allyn Kain, Surf City; and Georgene Hartmann, Long Beach Township.

Those elected to the seats will serve terms of three years.

In 2014, Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation that moved the deadline for school board contenders to file nominating petitions to the last Monday in July to encourage more citizens to seek candidacy in the November election.

Nominating petitions can be obtained in person at the Ocean County Southern Service Center, at 179 South Main St. in Manahawkin, or at the Ocean County Clerk’s main office, in the Ocean County Courthouse in Toms River. The offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Or candidates can call one of the offices and a packet will be mailed out to them.

A list of all candidates who file petitions for the school board will be available online shortly after the July deadline, at oceancountyclerk.com.
