Three Seats on Long Beach Island School Board Open to Contest

Deadline to File Petition for General Election Is July 30

During the General Election, on Nov. 6, taxpayers in Long Beach Township and Surf City will have the opportunity to vote for candidates to fill seats on the Long Beach Island Board of Education. The following three terms are ending: Colette Southwick, Long Beach Township; Tom Beaty, Long Beach Township; and Kristy Raber, Surf City.

Monday, July 30, at 4 p.m. is the deadline to file petitions at the Office of the Ocean County Clerk for all school board candidates for November’s election.

Southwick, the current board vice president, and Beaty are running to retain their seats. At press time, it was unclear whether Raber would also run.

The school board is comprised of nine members, four from Long Beach Township, two from Surf City, and one each from Ship Bottom, Harvey Cedars and Barnegat Light. Those elected to the board serve terms of three years.
