A toddler with family in Little Egg Harbor, Mateo Noah Filiciello, age 2, will appear in the bright lights of Broadway on Saturday, Sept. 15, as part of the National Down Syndrome Society’s annual Times Square video presentation.

The featured photographs highlight children, teens and adults with Down syndrome, reminding the world in a very big way about the contributions and milestones of people with Down syndrome. These collective images promote the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with the genetic disorder.

Mateo’s great-grandmother and his grandparents, Lynn and Bill Filiciello, of Mystic Island, are long-time Little Egg Harbor residents and their son, Mateo’s father, Chris Filiciello, graduated from Pinelands Regional High School in 2000. He now lives in Atlantic City with his wife Lorena Chicas and Mateo.

The photo of Mateo was selected from more than 2,400 entries in the NDSS worldwide call for photos. Almost 500 photographs will appear in the video, to be shown in the heart of Times Square. His parents and grandparents are very proud of Mateo for this recognition.

The video will be followed by the 24th annual Flagship Buddy Walk in NYC to kick off Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. Buddy Walk events will be held in more than 275 cities in the U.S. as well as international locations. Over 325,000 people will participate in October events sponsored by the National Down Syndrome Society, the leading human rights organization for individuals with Down syndrome.   —P.J.
