Train at Fall ‘Business Boot Camp’ Next Week

Get your business in shape for the future with Business Boot Camp, invites the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce about the event happening Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Holiday Inn Mainland in Manahawkin.

Attendees will spend the morning with basic and advanced training on franchising, communication and funding. Presented by Ocean County SCORE, the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Southern Ocean Chamber, the workshop runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $10, which includes a full breakfast and networking before specific seminars.

“Add this to your schedule if you own a business, are thinking of starting a business in Southern Ocean County, or if you manage employees,” chamber organizers state.

Business growth track seminars will cover Franchising 101, Preparing E-mail Communications, Financing Your Business through the SBA, and more. Speakers will include Robert Goodyear, a franchise system manager with extensive experience in business development for franchise small box retail and home-based service business format franchises.

Goodyear joined 7-Eleven as an executive trainee and rose to zone manager with responsibility for 200 franchise units in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He served as retail vice president for Dollar General Corp. and Parker Management, before joining Texaco Refining and Marketing as manager of franchise programs. After retiring from Texaco/Shell Oil Company, Goodyear joined Lawn Doctor Inc., where he was director of franchise development.

Marsha Pearson, who has a wealth of knowledge in business development, professional training and corporate communications, uses those tools to help small businesses and nonprofits define and achieve success. In addition to operating a retail store, she has spoken to audiences throughout the country on digital marketing and its application in today’s business environment.

Sheryl Paynter, lead lender relations and economic development specialist for the Small Business Administration, has assisted hundreds of small businesses through the loan process and funding matches. She will be a presenter at Business Boot Camp.

John Mendes, a certified financial planner, will present a workshop on setting up business exit strategy, whether voluntary or involuntary.

The Southern Ocean Chamber will be there to welcome attendees and provide local business development programming and schedules for a variety of upcoming events.
