A two-car accident at the intersection of Great Bay Boulevard and Radio Road in the borough of Tuckerton sent three to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. On Thursday, Jan. 10, at 8:22 p.m., a car driven by 19-year-old Jocelyn Mauer was going north on Great Bay Boulevard when she turned left at the intersection of Great Bay Boulevard and Radio Road into the path of 60-year-old Gary Rauter of Jared Lane, Little Egg Harbor. Rauter was traveling south on Great Bay Boulevard with two passengers in his pickup truck. The impact threw Rauter’s truck onto its passenger side. Mauer’s vehicle spun out to the left of Great Bay Boulevard and the engine caught fire. Mauer was able to get out of the vehicle on her own.

Rauter and a male passenger were able to exit their truck, and Tuckerton Patrolman Michael Francis broke the sunroof of their vehicle in order to extricate the female passenger. All three went to the hospital by ambulance. Mauer refused medical assistance. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor.

Tuckerton police investigated while Little Egg Harbor Township police assisted at the scene. Tuckerton Volunteer Fire Co. sent its fire engine, emergency truck and ambulance. Tuckerton Fire Co., Great Bay Regional EMS and Quality Medical Transport each took a patient to the hospital.

Also on Jan. 10, at approximately 5 p.m., Little Egg Harbor police responded to a house on Susquehanna Drive to a report of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound. Ptl. Chris Myers and Ptl. Steve Mancine arrived and rendered first aid, ultimately controlling heavy bleeding from the victim’s left leg.

There were no injuries to anyone else at the residence. The victim was flown by medevac to the trauma center at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City and was reported in stable condition. The incident is still under investigation. —P.J.
