Tuckerton Now Participates in Volunteer Tuition Credit Program

Nov 22, 2017

Tuckerton borough is participating in a state-sponsored Volunteer Tuition Credit Program for fire company and EMS volunteers. The program allows up to $600 a year for four years to help pay for tuition in post-high school graduate courses. The VTP is administered locally by the borough clerk, who must verify that the volunteer has served or will serve as a member of the volunteer organization for four years (they do not have to be consecutive years). After each year of volunteering, the organization must provide the municipality with verification that the person getting the credit is a member in good standing.

The clerk will issue a voucher that can be used by the volunteer or a member of his/her immediate family for up to four years of higher learning at a county college, county vocational or county technical school for $600 of tuition credit a year.

Participants must maintain a passing grade of a C or 2.0 to maintain program eligibility.

Tuckerton passed the resolution at its Nov. 20 municipal meeting. —P.J.
