The Tuckerton Borough Council has appointed Keith Vreeland to the council seat left vacant by the recent death of Councilman Jim Edwards.

Vreeland, 49, an architect currently working at Stockton University’s Seaview Hotel and Country Club as director of engineering and security, has served on the town’s planning board for 11 years.

Originally from Spring Lake, Vreeland has resided in Tuckerton for the past 18 years with his wife, Anna, originally from Galloway Township. The couple have three children: Keegan, Lance and Bethany. They attend the First United Methodist Church of Tuckerton and Vreeland donated his architectural services to build the Tuckerton Food Pantry nearby the church grounds.

Mayor Sue Marshall said the Ocean County Republican Committee submitted three names for the council’s consideration. After a brief executive meeting during the Sept. 8 municipal meeting, the council voted unanimously to appoint Vreeland.

His name will appear on the November ballot but he will run unopposed for council. —P.J.
