No need to fly to Germany for a traditional Christkindlmarkt (Christ Child market) – the Tuckerton Seaport brings the holiday family fun weekend to life every year at the maritime village on Tuckerton Creek. This year’s Christkindlmarkt begins Friday, Dec. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m., and continues Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be holiday crafts, specialty foods and unusual gift items – many handmade – under the heated tents. This year the Seaport is featuring “Blacksmiths Row” with four blacksmiths demonstrating their craft and then selling the items – including sleigh bells!

The festival of trees, decorated by and for local charities, will be set up in the Tucker’s Island Lighthouse; vote for your favorites by donating a bill or more.

There are lots of fun things for the kids to do, including gingerbread house decorating and make-and-take decorations in the lighthouse.

Outside, a hayride is available through the woods, and a horse-drawn wagon ride will clip-clop around the Seaport. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and ride the wagon and hayride for free; otherwise, there is a small fee.

The Jersey Coast Youth Band performs holiday music on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., and the Starlight Performers are on Sunday, also from noon to 2 p.m.

A food truck food court includes Zina’s Mobile Bistro, Dag’s Dippers (food on a stick), Philly Fries and Cajun Jax plus sweet treats from The Canoli Café and funnel cakes and deep-fried Oreos from Debbie’s O’s.

Also available on Saturday and Sunday is a drop–in class to make a woven stocking decoration with master basket maker Mary May. Classes are at 10 and 11 a.m. and 2 and 5 p.m. The fee is $20 ($15 for Seaport members) plus a $7 materials fee.

The Seaport is located at 120 West Main St. (Route 9) in historic Tuckerton. Admission for this event is $5 per person (Seaport members enter for free). Additional parking will be available at Tip Seaman County Park. For more information, call 609-296-8868 or go to —P.J.
