The Tuckerton Seaport has been collecting little red hats under an American Heart Association program for newborns born in February, American Heart Month. Volunteers from the Seaport and other organizations handmade 247 hats that they are donating to the cause, “Little Red Hats, Big Hearts.”

The AHA will wash them and create newborn welcome packages that also contain information about heart health.

From the AHA website: “The tiny red hats symbolize the American Heart Association’s mission of heart-healthy lives for everyone. They also raise awareness of congenital heart defects and what we can do to prevent them.”

The AHA has so far received 200,000 hats for distribution in 2018.

“Tuckerton Seaport is proud to be a community museum and we are always on the lookout for ways to give back, bring the community together and to serve,” said Brooke Salvanto, museum director.  —P.J.
