Tuckerton, Waretown Library Branches Extend Hours

Jan 09, 2019

In an effort to have buildings more accessible to the public, the Ocean County Library Commission last month approved extended hours for the Tuckerton and Waretown branches.

Effective on Monday, Jan. 21, both branches will be open 1-9 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Currently, both branches are open 1-9 Monday, 10-5 Tuesday and Thursday, 1-5 Wednesday and Friday and 10-1 Saturday.

“At the end of every year, we evaluate our services to see if we need to tweak or change anything,” said Susan Quinn, library system executive director. “We came to the conclusion that we needed to add hours to our six smallest branches in an effort to make them more accessible to the public.”

The other branches affected are in Plumsted, Island Heights, Beachwood and Point Pleasant Beach.

Quinn said that with the Tuckerton branch, adding morning hours could help the branch offer more children’s programming.

“And also, you have a lot of retirees who like to be out and about early, so this would accommodate them, too,” she said. “And with the libraries offering so much with computers and technology, some people looking for jobs and other services would also probably like to start in the morning. So I think this will benefit a lot of people, not only in Tuckerton, but the other smaller branches as well.”
