Apr 25, 2018

A report of unsafe driving led to the arrest Saturday of Melissa Haugh, 31, of Little Egg Harbor for DWI and possession of heroin, crack cocaine, alprazolam, hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia.

On Saturday morning, April 14, State Police Trooper Ryker Toscano was alerted by dispatch of an erratic driver traveling southbound on State Highway 9 in Burlington County. The caller stated that a black Nissan with Virginia plates was driving in and out of multiple lanes as it approached the Garden State Parkway.

Within minutes of receiving the call, Toscano located the vehicle and stopped the car southbound on the Parkway at milepost 50.0 in Bass River Township after he observed the driver unable to maintain her lane of travel.

During the stop, Toscano determined that Haugh was under the influence and arrested her for DWI. After further investigation, he discovered that Haugh was in possession of the drugs and drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested and later released pending a court appearance.

The New Jersey State Police thank the caller, who potentially saved lives and prevented a tragedy by reporting the incident.—P.J.
