Venezuelan Artisan Baker Popping Up at Two LBI ‘Bake Shops’

Internationally renowned artisan baker Rafael Morillo will discuss his bread-making skills at both How You Brewin? locations on LBI next week.

There is an art and science to baking, which Morillo has perfected at a baking institute and through research – and the skill set heats up with his doctoral degree in physics as well!

Morillo will showcase his specialties at a Pop-Up Bake Shop Wednesday, Nov. 22 from 8 a.m. to noon at How You Brewin? in Surf City.

He will follow this up at How You Brewin? in Barnegat Light on Saturday, Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of the holiday festivities being hosted by Viking Village that day.

Coffee shop owners Dan and Lori Malay said, “We love when our paths cross with others who are passionate about their craft. Hosting Rafael to showcase his abilities in the baking industry is something we are excited about and look forward to, especially moving into the holiday season.”

Morillo’s passion for bread-making and his commitment to researching and learning the Old World techniques combine for a finished product that has been considered second to none.

He has published and lectured on the neo-traditional bread revolution that is sweeping the industry, and has founded artisan bakeries in Venezuela and Colombia.

His original profession was as that of a physicist, entrepreneur and university professor. He more recently formalized his baking training with the American Institute of Baking, and has been a frequently invited guest and presenter on several television shows throughout Latin America.

The public is invited to stop by for some specialty goodies and bring their questions for the baker, who thoroughly enjoys talking and teaching on the topic.
