Take a hike at Jakes Branch County Park on Feb. 21 as part of Bass River State Forest’s “Wednesday Walk in the Woods” series. The free, 5-mile hike through Jakes Branch County Park in nearby Beachwood will be led by Jakes Branch naturalist Katie Hausman.

Jakes Branch County Park opened in 2009 with approximately 400 acres, including open space, miles of trails, ball fields, picnic area, playground and a beautiful nature center with educational exhibits and a 5-story observation deck.

Meet volunteer Bass River Forest Master Naturalist Kathy Gardiner at the Jakes Branch Park parking lot at 9 a.m. Bring lunch and drink. Severe weather will cancel the hike.

Other upcoming walks are scheduled for Wednesday, March 14 and a dog walk on Saturday, March 24.

For directions or to register, contact Gardiner at 609-296-6574 or cell 609-405-0360.  —P.J.
