We Will Prevail

Aug 29, 2018

To the Editor:

Recently I read in The SandPaper a thoughtful letter. It reflected the concerning damage Trump and his base have presented as a challenge to our democracy.

It’s unprecedented in our nation’s history that a president and a supporting Congress have enabled racism, bigotry, white supremacy, misogyny and rampant corruption in the White House, all of which is unsettling to the majority of Americans.

In spite of the threats to our democracy, I believe our nation will prevail and will be even stronger. The German philosopher Nietzsche essentially said, “If one can survive a tough time, he/she will be stronger.” That sentiment gives me the confidence that through this challenging test of our Constitution, the strength of our democracy will not only prevail but will be more inclusive for all Americans and will reaffirm the intentions of our forefathers.
