When Beach Haven celebrated its 125th anniversary two years ago,  residents and visitors had free access to the beach as well as to the borough’s tennis courts and public boat ramp every Wednesday during the summer season.

The feedback was so positive, Beach Haven is doing Wednesday Fun Day again this year, beginning in June.

Sherry Mason, borough clerk and acting manager, said people will be given access to exclusive Wednesday deals, including coupons toward many of the town’s restaurants, shops and nonprofits. A list of merchant-provided discounts and other offers will be found on the borough’s website as well as in participating stores.

The borough is also allowing people to offer yoga and other exercise classes as well as surfing lessons at the beach and parks without having to pay a fee. Those interested in offering these Wednesday activities are required to fill out the proper paperwork with the borough.

Barbara Cona, vice president of the recently formed Beach Haven Chamber of Commerce, said the group has reached out to businesses encouraging participation.

“We have some time to brainstorm and come up with promotions,” she said.

Councilman Don Kakstis said badge checkers get Wednesdays off.

“Most of the beach badges we sell are seasonal and weekly,” he said. “We save money giving them a day off since they’ll work six days a week instead of seven, and we hope to get more daily badge sales. Hopefully, people will want to drive to Beach Haven and see what we have to offer.”

A free concert, sponsored by the Beach Haven Community Arts Program, will also be held every Wednesday at Veterans Park, at 7 p.m.

“The concert is a perfect ending to a great day,” said Mason.  —E.E.
