Women of the Moose Donate to ‘Night to Shine’

The Women of the Moose group from the Beach Haven Moose lodge in Manahawkin has donated $1,500 for a special event catering to people with special needs.

Laury Hamilton, the chapter’s junior regent, said the money was raised from a barbecue and gift auction held in July.

“We want to do more to help people in the communities and this a worthy cause for raising money,” she said.

The donation will help the Night to Shine, an event held the past two years at Bayside Chapel in Barnegat Township. Sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, proms are held throughout the world on the Saturday prior to Valentine’s Day.

“We had about 190 guests last year, which is approximately 75 more than last year’s inaugural event,” said Bill Beuckman, one of the evet coordinators. “In those few hours, you’ll never see so much happiness, love, joy, happy tears and smiles. It really moved me.”

All the female guests got their hair, nails and makeup done, while the males were groomed and their shoes shined. They all wore corsages and boutonnieres. They were also treated to a ride in a limo, which arrived at the front of the building to a red carpet. Spotlights were shining into the night sky.

The prom also included Fresh New Angle DJs playing pop electronic dance music hits. On the second floor was a respite room for family members, who enjoyed a catered dinner and could view the proceedings downstairs via video screen hookup.

Beuckman said the event expenses are approximately $18,000.

“At the onset, the foundation gives us a major financial boost,” he said. “But then they cut the grant money as the goal is to make these events self-sustaining. That way we get more of the community and local sponsors involved. We certainly are very grateful for this donation. And the money that we don’t get through the grant will be used by the foundation to help another group get started.”

Beuckman said the next Night to Shine will be Feb. 8.

“No way are we ever going to give this up,” he said.  —E.E.
