With schools closed this week for the NJEA convention, Beach Haven is taking advantage by beginning work on a pocket park at the Beach Haven Elementary School. Mayor Nancy Taggart Davis said that when completed, the park will have benches, plantings and pavers. It will be set back 15 feet and will cover a block along Bay Avenue.

“We’re getting a start on it,” she said. “We’ll probably have it finished in the spring, and get most of the work done when the children are off for their spring recess.”

Davis said costs were uncertain, since numerous residents and businesses have volunteered their services.

“Public works is taking care of the initial work this week,” she said.

Davis said the project is one of several improvements underway in town.

“We’ve been making a commitment to improve our parks,” she said. “I think these are exciting times for Beach Haven.” —E.E.
