Worst Nightmare

Sep 05, 2018

The author of the following letter visits his aunt, Joan Barron, in Beach Haven every summer. She shared the letter with us.

Dear President Trump:

My name is Robert Levy. I am 11 years old and live in New York. I am on the autism spectrum. My concern about this country is grave. Gun laws are not strict enough, and four shootings in less than one year is terrifying. I am in consequential fear because two of those shootings were at schools. The Parkland shooting and the Texas school shooting have claimed the lives of 27 beautiful kids.

It is your job as president of the United States of America to protect and enforce gun and weapon laws along with Congress. My worst nightmare is that it will happen in my town and kill friends and me. Shootings are much more common now, and in turn the law I am proposing would include the illegalization of machine guns, such as AK-47s, Browning automatics and AA-52s along with many others. Bazookas should also be made illegal. Records would be forced to be checked at gun stores.

Anyone under the age of 18, anyone who has a connection to terrorists or cults, has been arrested or removed of a license, or any other objection that proves this person is unworthy to own a gun shall not be given the gun. This shall make our country a happier, safer, better place where no one has to worry about mass shootings.

Robert Levy

Massapequa, N.Y.
