Worthless TV

Jun 13, 2018

To the Editor:

It was a total waste of an hour.

Without a shadow of a doubt, there are some really horrible, extremely annoying and rather worthless TV shows on these days. One would think that the networks in these times would have an ounce of better common sense. Or should I say, the general viewing public would have better taste. But still some people, who for reasons unknown to science, would waste an hour of their lives watching a television show with absolutely no intellectual, humorous, interesting, informative or even what could be seen by most people as “somewhat good” viewing.

I am talking, of course, of these “Real Housewives of Wherever” shows. What species of waste is this? These shows are in no danger of winning any “Excellence in Television” awards, that is for sure. For the most part, they show a group of women who have more money than I do, who spend their days and nights arguing with anyone who will listen.

What really is annoying about these shows also is their constant cussing. Not that I have anything against the four-letter word monologue, but these women use it like seasoning in a Greek salad. They paint the room with their obscenities, over and over. Also, these obscenities are “blurred out” with a high-pitch tone that is more annoying than the actual cuss word would be – a highly attractive part of these shows. The constant beeping is just atrocious. It scares my dog.

I was subjected to this type of horrible show just the other evening when I was unable to get to the clicker to change the channel. I was quite ill and found that being exposed to this rubbish only made me feel worse. With so many other “better” choices available out there, why is this type of programming being broadcast on the airways?

My opinion has nothing to do with religion, or morals, or anything else like that. I base my opinions on common sense. Do we, as a society, really need this type of entertainment? Can we really call this entertainment? I think a better word would be punishment. I would hope that other fine people out there must feel the same way. I make a choice not to watch this guano. What about you?

I will occasionally watch some of these “reality” programs as a lesson on How NOT to Behave.
