Young Bandits Rule Girls Softball

Oct 31, 2018

The Barnegat Bandits Orange softball team won the All Shore Softball Fall Championship after defeating the Lincroft Lightning, 2-1, on Oct. 20 in Eatontown.

Head coach Mike Kopp said the Bandits, composed of 9- and 10-year-olds, were the No. 2 seed and won two earlier games to earn the chance to play in the championship game against the top-seeded Lightning.  Overall. The Bandits outscored their opponents 18-2 in the three-game sweep to earn their first All Shore Championship.

“This championship would not have been possible without the outstanding effort, hustle and encouragement of all the players, making this a true team effort,” said Kopp.

The coach said the fall season was very rewarding for the team as they posted an overall record of 9-1-1 and outscored their opponents by 45 runs.

“Their dedication, teamwork and hard work has paid off in a big way and the coaching staff and parents couldn’t be prouder,” said Kopp. “To say these young ladies are teammates is too easy; they’re friends making memories for life.”

He also tipped his hat to the Barnegat Girls Softball League, which he said facilitates the continued growth of the overall softball program.

“BGSL is a strong program and we look forward to continued growth and helping many other aspiring players learn the game,” said Kopp. “It’s an exciting time to play softball in Barnegat.”  —E.E.
